Switching Flexitank Suppliers: What to Verify Before You Move an Order
By Yuli Zhang, flexitank supply specialist, Qingdao, China|Published 2026-10-18
Switch on evidence, not on price alone. Before moving a flexitank order, verify the legal manufacturer and who is contractually responsible, collect written technical data (film material, thickness per layer, seam/welding method, configuration), confirm current carrier acceptance for your lane, have the supplier review your actual cargo data, run a controlled trial shipment, and agree claims handling in writing. If any of these cannot be answered, treat it as a risk signal rather than a negotiation point.
Why buyers start looking for another supplier
- •Documentation does not match what your buyer or letter of credit actually requires.
- •Specification answers stay vague when you ask about film material, thickness and seam/welding method.
- •Cargo data is never requested before a configuration is recommended.
- •A claim or leak dispute ends without a defined investigation path.
- •Lead time or capacity commitments repeatedly change after the order is placed.
The verification sequence
1. Confirm who is responsible for the product
Ask for the legal manufacturer name, the supplier's role, and who signs the commercial contract. A reseller is not a problem by itself — an unclear responsibility chain is.
2. Collect the technical evidence in writing
Product data sheet, film material and thickness per layer, total thickness, seam/welding method, valve and bulkhead configuration, and the test reports that apply to the configuration you are buying. Verbal assurance is not evidence.
3. Check approval status for your actual lane
Carrier or shipping-line acceptance is route- and configuration-specific and changes over time. Ask which approvals currently apply, in writing, and verify with your booking party before committing volume.
4. Review your cargo data, not a catalogue
A supplier who quotes without asking for cargo grade, density, loading temperature, transit temperature range and discharge method is quoting a product, not a solution.
5. Run a controlled trial shipment
Move one or a few units on a representative lane before scaling. Record loading time, any leakage, transit temperature behaviour, discharge completeness and condition on arrival.
6. Agree claims handling before you need it
Written terms for inspection, evidence required, response time, replacement or compensation, and who handles the investigation with the carrier.
Facts
- •Flexitank performance depends on the whole configuration: film material and thickness, seam/welding quality, bulkheads, valves, fitting and installation practice.
- •Carrier acceptance, documentation requirements and discharge conditions differ by lane and by buyer, so they must be checked per shipment.
- •A trial shipment on a representative lane produces evidence that no datasheet can replace.
Constraints
- •This site supplies empty flexitanks. Freight booking, carriage and destination discharge are not services this website provides.
- •Approval status and certification scope are only stated when they can be confirmed in writing for the specific configuration and lane.
- •Installation and logistics support, where available, is confirmed per order scope.
Unknowns until confirmed
- •Your carrier's current acceptance list for the exact configuration and route.
- •Which certificates your destination market or buyer will actually require.
- •Whether your discharge facility can handle the cargo's viscosity and temperature profile without additional heating.
What to record during the trial shipment
- •Loading time and any difficulty during filling
- •Leakage, bulging or fitting movement observed at any stage
- •Cargo temperature at loading, and expected transit range
- •Discharge method used and residual quantity left in the bag
- •Condition of the flexitank and container on arrival
- •Documents the carrier or buyer actually asked for
These records are what turn a trial into a decision. They also become your evidence base if a claim is ever needed.
How this website can help
I coordinate empty flexitank supply with an established manufacturer in Shandong, China, and I review cargo data before recommending a configuration. You get written answers on what can and cannot be confirmed — including when the answer is "not for this cargo or lane".
